The 2014 film was an animation feat — but it was built on the legacy of homemade fan movies. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO When you watch installments of the Warner Bros. line of Lego movies, it's hard not to be struck by how realistic the animation is. It isn't quite traditional stop motion — but it sure looks as if it could be. That's largely thanks to the work of the animators at Animal Logic, a Sydney-based visual effects studio that has worked on The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, and the upcoming The Lego Ninjago Movie. Powered by live action filming techniques and a close attention to detail, the studio has helped reinvent what Lego animations can look like. But they owe a lot of that aesthetic to the influence of fan films. Since the early 1970s, enthusiasts...

"Vanuit ons Expert Center Verkeer en Vervoer werken we al decennia aan het optimaliseren en beveiligen van bestaande vervoersmodaliteiten. Het is daarom bijzonder inspirerend om bij het Hyperloop team betrokken te zijn en te beleven hoe een nieuwe en zeer innovatieve manier voor het verplaatsen van mensen en goederen ontstaat. Hier spreekt een uitermate trotse sponsor en sparringpartner.” Meer informatie: http://www.cginederland.nl/movesmarter

Hybrid art/technology piece visually documenting the evolution of CGI. "Memorium" is the new single from Midnight Juggernauts upcoming album "Uncanny Valley". Coming soon through Siberia and Record Makers. www.recordmakers.com About the Video: WIREFRAME MEMORIES: A CHRONOLOGICAL TOUR THROUGH THE PIONEER YEARS OF CGI
With Computer Generated Imagery now a standard feature of our visual language and often indistinguishable from reality, we decided to take a long look back to the genesis of this technology. Well before the blockbuster milestones and mainstream acceptance, we chart CGI's origins mid last century within the experimental computer labs of universities, corporations, and various trailblazing individuals. These were the pioneer years of CGI. From the groundbreaking years of these first footprints, we follow the evolution of the technology as each new trial grows more ambitious and complex. From basic science/engineering line animations and wireframe oddities, to 3D and artistic experimentation, and the first trials to replicate human likeness and emotion. While some may seem crude by today's standards these watershed trials and experimental demos were all key critical building blocks.
In a field which quickly casts aside milestones as each new technological advance is superseded, this study sheds light on the pioneers and achievements which paved the way. Of the early innovators featured here, some went on to teach, a few disappeared, others started massive software companies, and some are running Pixar.
Contemplating this subject of early digital footprints of technology, the band realized it reflected similar themes to their song Memorium. They each recount a tracing through discarded remnants of the past. It seemed logical to combine the two pieces, and so this visual homage was created.

Since 2005, CGI members have challenged the status quo by proposing bold and cutting-edge ideas, some never envisioned before, that led to disruptive breakthroughs. Going forward, how can CGI members continue to take worthwhile risks and accept that experiencing failure is a critical element to achieving success? How can they “dream big” in order to unlock innovation and drive social change? This session will share the perspectives of forward-thinking leaders and innovators from across sectors, including a live conversation with the International Space Station on exploring new frontiers. PARTICIPANTS: President Bill Clinton, Founding Chairman, Clinton Global Initiative; 42nd President of the United States Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair, Clinton Foundation Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former U.S. Secretary of State and U.S. Senator from New York Cady Coleman, Astronaut, NASA, Colonel, U.S. Air Force Peter H. Since the early 1970s, enthusiasts have made home movies with their own Lego sets. They're called Brickfilms — and they've grown into a sizable community producing great movies and helping many young animators get their start. The Lego Movie animators learned from what made those home movies so good by embracing the limitations of the medium, and creating a world that anyone could could rebuild at home. There is no shortage of proven solutions to many of the world's most seemingly intractable problems. Yet rather than scaling up existing programs with established track records, many funders and founders continue to launch new organizations and spearhead new initiatives in search of the next game-changing startup or breakthrough idea. How can social innovators better recognize opportunities to join forces with organizations that possess the existing infrastructure and similar theories of change? If measurable impact is the ultimate goal, should students focus less on starting up and more on scaling up? Are solutions to illiteracy, climate change, or HIV/AIDS truly transferable from one location or community to another in the way that a fast food franchise can expand across a region? This session will bring together grassroots entrepreneurs, NGO leaders, and private sector representatives to explore the challenges, costs, and benefits of scaling up successful solutions. Moderator: Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair, Clinton Foundation Participants: Bill Drayton, Chief Executive Officer, Ashoka Katie Smith Milway, Partner, Head of Knowledge, The Bridgespan Group Deogratias Niyizonkiza, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Village Health Works Rosario Pérez, President and Chief Executive Officer, Pro Mujer

The global demand for electricity is growing exponentially, as more people connect to urban grids, developing countries expand their industrial sectors, and sophisticated technologies enhance our ability to extract natural resources from the planet. Addressing this demand in the face of global warming and other environmental and economic challenges is one of the most critical questions of the coming decades. With options ranging from fracking to solar energy, what are the cleanest and most cost-effective sources of electricity? What next generation innovations are already being developed, and what business models can accelerate the adoption of these new, sustainable technologies? This panel will draw on the expertise of energy innovators who will offer ideas for how students can reimagine and reinvent the future of electricity.

Bringing electricity to remote areas in developing countries is a challenge Harvard graduates Jessica Matthews AB '10 and Julia Silverman AB '10 are tackling head on. As students, they developed sOccket, a soccer--ball--shaped device that harnesses the kinetic energy generated as users kick, dribble, or throw it around. Once the energy is stored, small electrical devices such as LED lights can be plugged into sOccket. Matthews and Silverman are now working with organizations serving resource-poor communities to distribute the ball on a larger scale.
