The 2014 film was an animation feat — but it was built on the legacy of homemade fan movies. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO When you watch installments of the Warner Bros. line of Lego movies, it's hard not to be struck by how realistic the animation is. It isn't quite traditional stop motion — but it sure looks as if it could be. That's largely thanks to the work of the animators at Animal Logic, a Sydney-based visual effects studio that has worked on The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, and the upcoming The Lego Ninjago Movie. Powered by live action filming techniques and a close attention to detail, the studio has helped reinvent what Lego animations can look like. But they owe a lot of that aesthetic to the influence of fan films. Since the early 1970s, enthusiasts...

From the founders of GOOGLE, to ELON MUSK, the man who wants to go to Mars; These are the 10 GREATEST Living Technology Innovators ! Subscribe to Knowledge Feed for awesome mysteries, discoveries, fun topics and all around AWESOME videos ! 10. Satya Nadella 9. Ben Goodger 8. Larry Page 7. Sergey Brin 6. Sean Parker 5. Elon Musk 4. Eric Schmidt Schmidt served as Google’s CEO from 2001 to 2011, assuming Larry Page’s position after he stepped down. Early in his career he and Mike Lesk wrote Lex, a program that creates lexical analyzers from regular-expression descriptions. In 1983 Schmidt became Sun Microsystem first software manager and quickly rose up its ranks, eventually becoming president of Sun Technology Enterprises. His time at Sun was notable for two elaborate and hilarious April Fool’s Day pranks for which he was the target. Co-workers took his work area apart and rebuilt it on a platform in the middle of a pond. The next year the joke was kept in house when a Volkswagon Beetle was taken apart and reassembled in his office. Schmidt is involved in politics and financially supported Barack Obama and more recently Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns. Apple elected Schmidt to its board of directors in 2006, a position that he resigned from in 2009 as Apple and Google were becoming competitors. 3. Sir Tim Berners- Lee Tim’s parents worked on the first commercially built computer, the Ferranti Mark 1. His parent's success would be a precursor to the great things that the man would go on to accomplish. In 1989 Lee made a proposal for an information management system that would become the World Wide Web. He launched the first web browser and helped build the first ever website info.cern.ch. He was named one of the 100 most important people of the twentieth century by Time Magazine, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth and received recognition as the inventor of the World Wide Web at the Summer Olympics in 2012. Today he is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, which oversees the development of the Web. 2. Mark Zuckerberg Today Zuckerberg is the 5th richest person in the world with a net worth estimated at fifty billion dollars. His father saw his brilliance early on and hired software developer David Newman to tutor him. Newman saw that he was a prodigy right away and explains that he could barely stay ahead of young Mark. He even built a software program called ZuckNet that was a primitive form of AOL Instant Messenger for his father’s dental practice. By the time he landed at Harvard University his reputation as a programmer preceded him. It was at this elite school that Zuckerberg started to create the program that would change the world, Facebook. He began by writing a piece of software called CourseMatch, which allowed students to choose classes based on the choices of other students. Shortly after he created FaceSmash, which let users choose the best-looking student from a selection of photos. The immediate and overwhelming popularity of FaceSmash crashed one of Harvard’s network switches and further bolstered Zuckerberg’s reputation. With roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes, Zuckerberg created and launched “thefacebook.com” from his dorm room on February 4, 2004. Eventually, Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard and moved to Palo Alto to work on the site full-time, and the rest is history. 1. Bill Gates Gates, like Zuckerberg, dropped out of Harvard University to pursue his ambitions. Both were entrepreneurs who were way ahead of their time, and as a result the pair has become two of the richest and most powerful men in the world. Together with Paul Allen Gates founded Microsoft in 1975, which would turn into the largest PC software company on earth. Gates would become the CEO, chairman, and chief software architect of the enterprise. He was Microsoft’s largest individual shareholder until 2014, the same year he stepped down from the company. At the height of his wealth in 1999, Gates was briefly worth over 100 billion dollars, causing the media to dub him a centibillionaire. Today Gates net worth is estimated to be 81.7 billion dollars, not as much as it once was but it still makes him the richest man on the planet. He lives on a 125 million dollar property in Medina, Washington that includes a sixty-foot swimming pool with an underwater music system and a 2,500 square foot gym. With his wife Gates founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s wealthiest charitable foundation with assets north of 30 billion dollars. Unlike most major charities the foundation allows benefactors to access information that shows how their money is being spent. The couple plans on eventually donating 95 percent of their wealth to charity.

With Computer Generated Imagery now a standard feature of our visual language and often indistinguishable from reality, we decided to take a long look back to the genesis of this technology. Well before the blockbuster milestones and mainstream acceptance, we chart CGI's origins mid last century within the experimental computer labs of universities, corporations, and various trailblazing individuals. These were the pioneer years of CGI. From the groundbreaking years of these first footprints, we follow the evolution of the technology as each new trial grows more ambitious and complex. From basic science/engineering line animations and wireframe oddities, to 3D and artistic experimentation, and the first trials to replicate human likeness and emotion. While some may seem crude by today's standards these watershed trials and experimental demos were all key critical building blocks.
In a field which quickly casts aside milestones as each new technological advance is superseded, this study sheds light on the pioneers and achievements which paved the way. Of the early innovators featured here, some went on to teach, a few disappeared, others started massive software companies, and some are running Pixar.
Contemplating this subject of early digital footprints of technology, the band realized it reflected similar themes to their song Memorium. They each recount a tracing through discarded remnants of the past. It seemed logical to combine the two pieces, and so this visual homage was created.

Since the early 1970s, enthusiasts have made home movies with their own Lego sets. They're called Brickfilms — and they've grown into a sizable community producing great movies and helping many young animators get their start. The Lego Movie animators learned from what made those home movies so good by embracing the limitations of the medium, and creating a world that anyone could could rebuild at home.
